Board of Directors
The CNV Foundation was founded in 2004 by Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard together with Maria Leptin. The third member was Brigitte Mühlenbruch. Gerlind Wallon and Barbara Bludau have since joined the foundation’s board of directors.


Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard
Emeritus Director at the Max-Planck-Institute for Biology Tübingen. She studied biology, physics and biochemistry in Frankfurt and Tübingen. Dr. rer. nat. 1973, Prof. 1985. Embryology and genetics. Nobel Prize in Medicine 1995.

Barbara Bludau
Lawyer, former Secretary General of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, former State Councillor of the City of Hamburg. She studied law at the universities of Göttingen, Munich, Cologne and Bonn.

Maria Leptin
President of the European Research Council (ERC), Department of Developmental Genetics, University of Cologne, Institute of Genetics. Studied mathematics and biology in Bonn and Heidelberg. Dr. rer. nat. 1979, Prof. 1994. Cell and Developmental Biology. 2 sons.

Gerlind Wallon
Deputy Director of EMBO, EMBO Young Investigator Programme. Studied chemical engineering in Hamburg and biochemistry at Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, USA. PhD 1996. 2 children.
